Arriving on site: How to level your motorhome

Many people ask, ‘how do I level my motorhome?’ Thankfully, it’s a quick and easy thing to do.

Chocks away

You’ll need a spirit level and a pair of levelling ramps. Place the spirit level on a flat surface, such as a worktop or the floor, so it points widthways across the motorhome. Then, turn the spirit level through 90 degrees so that it points lengthways along the motorhome. This will determine which side or end needs to be raised.

Ramp placement

Let’s say, for example, that the front of your motorhome needs to be raised. Place the ramps in front of the front wheels – one per wheel – so the wheels can climb up each ramp when driven forward. Push them firmly into place with your foot, so they don’t slip as the motorhome drives up the ramps. Don’t be tempted to ask a helper to hold the ramps in place!

Is it level?

Many types of levelling ramps are available for motorhome use. However, Milenco’s Triple 3 (available from Prima Leisure) makes it a simple process thanks to three different levels moulded into each ramp.

If you’re levelling the motorhome on your own, climbing onto each level (applying the handbrake as you do so) allows you to check progress with the spirit level. Once the motorhome is level, apply the handbrake.
